1762 - British take Grenada, West Indies, from French

1768 - 1st US Chamber of Commerce forms (NYC), which was formed by twenty NY merchants. It was the 1st commercial organization of this country.

1792 - George Washington casts 1st presidential veto; bill introduced a new plan for dividing seats in the House of Representatives that would have increased the amount of seats for northern states.

1803 - 1st performance of Beethoven's 2nd Symphony in D. It was dedicated to Prince Lichnowsky.

1804 - High Fossil Meteorite: The 1st recorded meteorite in Scotland falls in outskirts of Glasgow.

1814 - Netherlands Bank issues its 1st banknotes.

1818 - In the Battle of Maipú, Chile's independence movement - led by Bernardo O'Higgins and José de San Martín - win a decisive victory over Spain, leaving 2000 Spaniards and 1000 Chilean patriots dead.

2009 - North Korea launches its controversial Kwangmyŏngsŏng-2 rocket. The satellite passed over mainland Japan, which prompted an immediate reaction from the United Nations Security Council, as well as participating states of Six-party talks.

Libya Unrest: Pro-Gadaffi forces advancing towards the eastern oil town of Brega. UN urges for peace talks. People suffer normal lives. Gun shot & Snipers all across the building, which tenses NATO forces.

Yemen Riots: Security forces have fired on anti-government protesters, killing at least 15 people and wounding many more. People were unhappy over the rule of Prez Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has been in regime for 32 years.

-          Australian Cricketer.
-          Former coach for National Cricket Team (Aus) & Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL).
-          Also known in cricketing circles as 'Ned Flanders', due to his similarity in appearance to The Simpsons character.
-          He began his coaching career in England- he was player/coach/professional for Oldham in Central Lancashire league in Minor Counties 1978 & 79. Oldham won the League and Cup double in 79 which was first time in some 40 odd years.
-          As an Australian Coach, he leads to numerous unprecedented victories like 16 consecutive Test match wins & 23 WC ODI wins. He dominated the world strongest team by 1999-2007.
-          He also underwent various criticisms against his unorthodox coach strategies.
-          Put under severe media pressure after Ashes Whitewash defeat by 2006-07.
-          Ends his career as Aus coach by winning 2007 WC for hat-trick time.

1581 - Frances Drake, an English sea captain completes circumnavigation of world.


1655 - The miraculous statue entitled the Infant of Prague is solemnly crowned by command of Cardinal Harrach.


1814 - Napoleon Bonaparte (French) abdicates for the first time. There was a lull in fighting over the winter of 1813 while both the Russians and the French rebuilt their forces; Napoleon had no choice but to give up.


1818 – US Congress decided that national flag is 13 red & white stripes & 20 stars.


1850 - City of Los Angeles incorporated

1899 - South Africa had a chance to record their first Test victory in the second Test, after dismissing England for 99, then scoring 177 themselves. 330 from England set them a challenging 246. But the South Africans collapsed again and were bowled out by Haigh (6 for 11) and Trott (4 for 19) for a feeble 35 off only 114 balls.


1905 - Earthquake in Kangra (India) kills 20000. It measured 7.8Mg on Richter scale.

1949 - North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) treaty signed (Wash DC). It headquarters in Brussels, Belgium and the organization constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.
