1795 - France adopts the meter as the basic measure of length.

1906 - Mount Vesuvius erupts and devastates Naples (Italy). It is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years, although it is not currently erupting.

1923 - 1st brain tumor operation under local anesthetic performed (Beth Israel Hospital in NYC) by Dr K Winfield Ney.

1926 - Forest fire burns 900 acres & kills 200 (San Luis Obispo Calif). It is a city in California, US.
1927 - Using phone lines TV is sent from Wash DC to NYC.  It was the 1st Public transmission of Television pictures.

1934 - In India, Mahatma Gandhi suspended his campaign of civil disobedience.

1946 - Syria's independence from France is officially recognized.

1948 - World Health Organization forms by UN, headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland). It acts as a coordinating authority on international public health.

1963 - Yugoslavia proclaimed a Socialistic republic and was renamed as ‘Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia’. Whereas Religious differences between Orthodox Christian Serbs, Catholic Croats, and Muslim Bosnians and the rise of nationalism contributed to the collapse of Yugoslavia into 7 parts by 1991.

1964 - IBM announces the System/360, Mainframe Computers. It was the 1st family of computers designed to cover the complete range of applications, from small to large, both commercial and scientific. 

1967 - Israeli/Syrian border fights. Also known as the 1967 Arab-Israeli War or the Third Arab-Israeli War was fought between June 5 and June 10, 1967, by Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt (known then as the United Arab Republic [UAR]), Jordan, and Syria. The war began with a large-scale surprise air strike by Israel on Egypt. The outcome was a swift and decisive Israeli victory. Israel took effective control of the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria.

1969 – Request for Comments: The Internet's symbolic birth date publication of RFC 1. The inception of the RFC format occurred as part of the seminal ARPANET project. Now a days, it is the official publication channel for the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). This academy publication lets to up rise of social networking online in general by today.

2009 - Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori is sentenced to 25 years in prison for ordering killings and kidnappings by security forces.

Ivory Coast Battle For Presidency: Situation tensed all across the city Abidjan, as the fight between Gbagbo's troops & Ouatarra's troops sharpen. People under huge threat. African Economy stumbled for last 5 months. UN taking all steps to stop fight. But day-by-day, the fight getting too personnel avenge for both Ousted Prez Gbagbo & Besiged Prez Ouatarra. So as it affects people's welfare. Gun shots & grenades sound echos all across the capital city. US calls for immediate ceasefire.



Mexico's Anger over Drug: Protesters marches have been held in more than 20 cities across Mexico against the drug-related violence sweeping the country. Some called for President Felipe Calderon to resign, saying his strategy had exacerbated the bloodshed. Nearly 35000 Mexicans shot dead, since Mr.Calderon assumes office by 2006.



Japan Nuclear Disaster: Seawater radioactivity levels drop sharply in new tests. Nitrogen being injected into Unit 1 due to hydrogen buildup. One leak of highly radioactive water, from Unit No. 2, into the Pacific Ocean has been stopped. But an official says, "We cannot be optimistic, just because we were able to plug this one".



Libya Unrest: Gadhafi asks Obama to end NATO bombing. Whereas the White House seeks 'resignation to stop fighting'. The civil war in Libya lets to huge set back in Oil exports from North African nations. UN & World bodies urges Gadaffi to resign & held ceasefire.




Single-Man fight against Corruption: A veteran social activist in India has launched an indefinite hunger strike to seek tough, overarching laws to tackle corruption as a rash of scandals undermined the reputation of the country's government. People supports him in huge manner. PM Manmohan now answerable to this brave old tyagi.
